My relationship to the Tango is difficult.
A whole year long I tormented myself to the lessons just to please my girl -friend. The teacher granted me that I was much too little Macho, that I must feel the Tango in the center of my body. Over a bad stereo system the studio was filled with metallic sounds that dates back to the times of the last turn of the century. And when the agenda includes modern Tango, then It dates back to around nineteen-hundred-30s.
No matter the music hobby-machos shuffeled dancers over the parquet at the end of workday. Terribly.
From time to time I have been persuaded participating a so called milonga. The the smallurban dance middle class celebrates and gawks at themselves. I definitely felt out of place. I liked the rhythm and energy of the music, but not at this location, not in this setting. And why should i be in motion to music at all?
Finally I gave up.
